Celebrations as Gabon names General Brice Oligui Nguema as the new leader following the Coup d’etat.
General Brice Oligui Nguema has been appointed as the interim president of Gabon by army commanders who took control of the country on Wednesday.
Earlier, Gen. Nguema’s troops triumphantly escorted him through the streets of Libreville, the nation’s capital.
In a video recorded at his residence, the ousted president, Ali Bongo, asks his “friends all over the world” to “make noise” on his behalf.
Omar Bongo ruled Gabon for 42 years. His son Ali Bongo took over and ruled for 14 years.

Now he is asking the world to support him after he rigged an election and the military staged a coup.

Mantula unpacked what is currently unfolding in Gabon where military officers have seized power and put President Ali Bongo under house arrest, stepping in minutes after the central African State’s election body announced he had won a third term.

Videos on social media have been widely shared showing a group of soldiers dancing with Nguema and calling him Gabon’s “next strongman.”
