President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled a series of initiatives on Monday night to address South Africa’s ongoing energy crisis.
He unveiled specific plans for increasing the amount of electricity generated and added to the grid.
This involves removing the inherent power generating cap and making rooftop solar investments possible for both families and businesses.
There had been widespread reactions to the proposed plan and whether it will truly bring an end to the rolling blackouts.

Various sectors have responded to the president’s plan, particularly the business community.
According to Business Unity South Africa (BUSA), the government must be held responsible for the new energy plan and must meet strict timetables and implementation goals.
Kaya Biz with Gugulethu Mfuphi spoke to Coovadia, BUSA’s chief executive officer about what businesses still need from Ramaphosa’s new energy plan.
“Simply put, the country needs to bring on as much generation capacity as possible, in as short a time as possible to close the 6GW energy gap, and this plan is a concrete step towards achieving this,” said Coovadia.
