If you had just one ticket, or were invited to attend an event without a plus one, would you go without your partner or sit it out so you could be with your person?
Being in a relationship involves a lot of compromise, give and take, understanding and acceptance if two people are to have any chance of having a successful partnership.
There will be a number of times life throws trials and tribulations your way which will undoubtedly test the strength of your relationship, love and trust in one another.
That’s what Sizwe Dhlomo wanted to know on Kaya Drive this Monday, 03 October, after someone he knows turned down VIP tickets to watch Burna Boy in action because her husband couldn’t go with.
The responses from most listeners reflected a change in mindset when it comes to relationships, with many saying they would not have made a big deal out of things, and their partner could have gone without them.
“It’s VIP and an artist who is popular right now, so why would I want my partner to miss out on the experience, even if I couldn’t go with? Relationships are about being a bit more accommodating and I would have been fine if my partner went without me.”
Perhaps the narrative on relationships and marriages have changed somewhat and people are less territorial, giving their significant others a little more freedom to do whatever makes them happy.
“A concert is a few hours, there’s no need for me to stop my partner from attending because we can always spend time after the event or show. Maybe this is their favourite artist, and I may not enjoy the performance as much so even if I went, I’d just be there for his/her sake. I’d rather let my partner go and know they’ll have an amazing time and not make them feel a type of way for going without me.”
