Did the bet Thomas made with Skhumba about Banyana Banyana’s odds of advancing to the Round of 16 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup humble the comedian?
Judging by his sombre facial expression, Skhumba now knows better than to write off the African Champions, whose thrilling victory over Italy on Wednesday, 02 August takes the ladies one step closer to the finish line.
The Kaya Drive stand-in presenter’s bet on Tuesday, 01 August was honoured by Skhumba who had to come to work dressed in a tutu, and boy, did he deliver.
After a dismal start to the Women’s World Cup, Skhumba was confident there was no way Desiree Ellis’ side would pull off a win.
The African Champions suffered defeat in the opening game against Sweden, and then went on to draw against Argentina, in the second group game.
Little did Skhumba know that the faith of the rest of the country, and the determination from Banyana Banyana would be the catalyst in advancing to the next round.
Treating the clash against Italy like a final, Banyana Banyana pulled off a near-impossible 3-2 victory over Le Azzurre.
While Skhumba wrote off the home side, Thomas, was unwavering in his support of “his Queens,” and brought Skhumba the South African flag to don, as he ate some major humble pie.
