From flaming hot, extra spicy or peri-peri, South Africans are no strangers to chillies.
With a diverse range of cultures, spicy foods that are packed with flavour have likely made their way into most of our homes and either you liked it or couldn’t manage the heat on your tongue.
After the Guinness Book of World Records rated Pepper X as the hottest chilli pepper in the world, Thomas and Skhumba tried out a few chillies in-studio to see what their tolerance level with chillies is.
Listen to Thomas and Skhumba’s reaction to testing out their tolerance level with chillies on Kaya Drive:
In case you were wondering how hot the Pepper X is, let’s just say it’s over a million times hotter than its predecessor, the Carolina Reaper.
Pepper X was developed by passionate chilli lover, Ed Curry who took 10 years to cross-breed this spicy monstrosity.
His company, America Puckerbutt Pepper Company created Pepper X, which is according to Curry too spicy for any human palette to endure.
Using the Scoville scale, which is the scale that measures a chilli’s hotness, Pepper X measures 2.69 million on the Scoville Heats Unit (SHU).
