The Springboks, champions of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, have touched down at OR Tambo International Airport after their incredible triumph at Stade France. The atmosphere is electric as thousands of devoted Springbok fans flocked to the airport to give coach Jacques Nienaber and his team a hero’s welcome.
To celebrate the Boks’ historic victory, Gautrain has generously opened all stations for fans sporting SA or Bokke gear. This means that supporters can travel to the airport free of charge between 10:00 and 15:00, adding to the excitement and camaraderie surrounding this momentous occasion.
Speaking at a media briefing at the airport alongside his coach, Kolisi said that the team felt the expectation of returning home with the trophy.
“On behalf of the team, we would like to say thank you to the people of South Africa.
“When they first came (the coaching team), they didn’t think we would win the 2019 World Cup. Obviously, things changed, and we just got better and better in 2019. People were hopeful in 2019, but this time around, we felt the expectation that we would retain the World Cup.”
