The Black Middle-Class Research Report has been released by UCT and the Liberty Institute.
The report was infused by engagement with marketing experts as well as research from Black Middle-Class champions Kaya 959.
There were also participants from the initial “Black Diamond” studies who were brought back to share how their middle-class experience has been shaped in the last decade.
According to the most recent report, South Africa’s black middle class has 3.4 million members, or 7% of the country’s black African population, with an annual spending power of R400 billion.
Over 1 900 middle-class houses were surveyed for the study, which took place over a year, along with more than 300 interviews.
Kaya 959’s Best T In the City host Tbose and Kaya 959’s Head of Research Amu Mathebula joined Gugulethu Mfuphi to unpack the Black Middle-Class Report.
