South Africa’s unemployment rate fell by a mere 0.2 percentage point in the fourth and final quarter of last year.
Despite a minor improvement in joblessness, at least 8 million South Africans remain unemployed.
The number of ‘Not Economically Active’ persons increased by 18 000 in Q4:2024 compared to Q3:2024.
This means that the official unemployment rate now stands at 31.9%.
According to Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), employment increased in the formal, informal, and private sectors, but employment in agriculture declined by 11 000 during the same time period.
Stats SA published the Quarterly Labour Force Survey in Pretoria on Tuesday.
