SA Express has received a final liquidation order from the South Gauteng High Court.
There was reportedly no resistance to the order being given.
The provisional liquidators proposed full liquidation because they believed there was no chance the company could be saved.
Since the airline entered provisional liquidation in April 2020 as a result of failed attempts to save the company, SA Express has been grounded. Over the past two years, there have been numerous attempts to sell the company, but these have all failed.

“It is a very sad day for the South African Aviation industry and it is a sad day for the history of the industry. As we all know SA Express was one of the cornerstone airlines for regional travel, I think it is really painful that the circumstance has led to the demise of the airline.”
“I think there could have been more that could have been done when the time was right. I think inaction from the government and the Department of Public Enterprise saw us where we are today,” said Diale.
The airline lost all of its tangible assets after the Air Services Council revoked its licenses in July 2022.
The airline’s obligations were getting close to R1 billion at the time.
600 employees had their contracts terminated when the airline originally went into provisional insolvency, and many were left without the money they were due.
