Despite its affordability, one thing about public transport, especially in South Africa, is that it will humble you!
From the horrors of taxi math to sitting on broken seats that sway from left to right, oh, and don’t get me started on the frustration that comes with trying to resemble doors that are always falling off their rails.
Just based on this, public transport is definitely not for the faint-hearted!
In this episode on Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana, Andy discusses the one public transport incident that made listeners consider buying a car.
In a voice note, one listener retells the embarrassing story of how she fell out of a taxi when her skirt got caught in a folding chair.
“So I was coming back from work in a taxi. And I was sitting in the third row before the last back row in the taxi. And you know the second row has a folding seat. So there I was, “Short left”. I was wearing a skirt with stockings. As I walked out my skirt got caught in the folding seat. Not me falling hands first, bums out, and hands in the air. It was terrible! After this, I immediately got my car”.
Another listener expressed how on his way to a job interview, another passenger hadn’t paid the fee causing the trip to be delayed.
“I took a taxi from Kagiso to Johannesburg, and someone did not pay the taxi fee. Because of this the taxi driver made a U-turn and refused to continue with the journey. And mind you I had to go for an interview”.
He continued: “Someone in the taxi then instead to pay the outstanding fee, but the taxi driver refused to and insisted that the person who didn’t pay, pay the fee. It was intense”.
