Now that we are in the month of October, it’s safe to say that this year 2022 is almost done.
Not only do we have two more months for the year 2022, but the month of October calls for celebrating and honouring one’s family history. That’s right, October is Family History Month!
For those who are not aware, Family History Month is a month that is dedicated to remembering, researching, and honouring your family’s history and lineage.
Since the dawn of time family history has been an important part of our lives and identities.
Our family history plays a huge part in our identities. It tells us who we are, and where we come from and gives us information about the backgrounds of our ancestors.
On Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana, Andy delves into Family History Month and asks listeners about their family lineages and history.
Here are a few tips on how to celebrate Family History Month:
- Connect with older family members- Having conversations with older relatives will assist in connecting the dots when putting your family history together.
- Investigate your ancestors- Establish your family tree.
- Collect family memorabilia like photographs, documents, and any other visual accounts- This will preserve your family history and culture.
- Write and Document your own experiences- Again, this preserves history for future generations to come.
