Marriage is never easy, nor is dealing with your new in-laws.
Forming relationships with in-laws can be quite tricky, especially when there’s a persistent clash of personalities.
Unlike friendship disputes, where you can easily cut your losses and move on, with in-laws however because there’s a marriage involved, the rules of engagement are different. Meaning, you will have to find ways to deal with toxic in-laws by co-existing and keeping the peace.
Here are some tips on how to deal with difficult in-laws:
- Establish firm boundaries
- Be clear with how you communicate
- Avoid reaction with emotion
- Respect and understand your in-law’s attachment and relation to your spouse
- Try to find a common ground
- Be respectful
