Drive 959 recently posed the question, “What you could do with R100 ten years ago compared to now is dramatically different.”
Over the years, the rand’s weakening value has increased South Africans’ cost of living.
The Drive 959 team asked listeners to share practical tips for making R100 stretch further than most would expect.
Skhumba claimed he could feed an entire family with R100.
“I’d buy a loaf of bread and two tinned foods.” He also proposed a micro-business idea: “Buy two liquid soaps and a small polish. With that, you could wash four cars and make about R340 in profit.”
Glen Lewis suggested. “With a hundred rand, you could get fish and chips for R45 and a bottle of Coke for R20.”
Kgomotso Meso noted that this highlights the decline in our currency.
“We once had store specials where R100 bought a full meal. But you can still make it work with smart budgeting.”
