A listener shares that his family recently held a ceremony at his parents’ house, where the unexpected presence of his ex upset his wife.
This led to a confrontation between the two women, prompting his brothers to step in and try to defuse the situation.
The incident left the family unhappy with his wife’s behaviour, and they are now expecting an apology from her.
However, the listener’s wife feels strongly that her husband should support her unconditionally.
Reaching out to The Best T in the City with Tbose, the listener is seeking advice, wondering if there are any blind spots he may be overlooking.
“Last week, we held a family cleansing ceremony. While we were busy with the proceedings, my ex, the mother of my firstborn, walked in. My wife immediately changed; she became visibly upset and withdrawn. Once the formalities were over, she asked me to tell my ex to leave.
“I explained that I hadn’t spoken to my ex in a long time-ever since our son became old enough to communicate with me directly. I also told my wife that she shouldn’t give my ex power by reacting to her presence but should simply ignore her, as I do. My brothers stepped in to try to calm the situation. They reassured my wife that they were on her side and promised to speak to our sister, who had invited my ex without informing anyone.
“Despite this, my wife would not hear it and ended up speaking to my brothers in a very disrespectful way, which left them angry. I also did my part and confronted my sister-she’s now giving me the silent treatment. Here’s the twist: our lastborn is turning 12, and we’ve been planning a celebration. But my brothers say they can’t attend unless my wife apologises.
“My wife, however, is adamant that she won’t apologise; she believes she was the one disrespected and is owed an apology instead. I understand my wife’s anger, but I can’t ignore how she handled the situation or spoke to my brothers. As a husband, I know I’m expected to stand by my wife, but in this case, I genuinely believe she was in the wrong. This party must happen, but only if I can mend relations between my wife and family. Should I go ahead with it or postpone until tensions ease? What could be my blind spot here?”
