A listener who is on the verge of getting married recently discovered her fiancee’s infidelity and is now having doubts about going through with the wedding. As she contemplates putting the wedding on hold, her mom advises her to forgive him for cheating and accept his extramarital affair. Unsure of how to handle the situation, she seeks advice from fellow Best T listeners.
“I am supposed to be getting married this December; however, about a month ago, I found out that my soon-to-be husband is cheating on me. I caught him red-handed in the parking lot of our local shopping complex. I am ready to call off the wedding because this is the second time I have caught him cheating with this woman.
“I feel it would have been easier if it had been another woman, as that would mean he was not catching feelings. But finding him with the same woman means they are in a relationship, and feelings have been caught. I want to postpone the wedding to see if we can work things out.
“However, my mother sat me down and told me how my father has another family, and she knew about the woman months after they got married. According to her, I should not try and fight with my fiancee to end things with the other woman. Instead, I should accept the relationship, and that way I will know peace. I get where my mother is coming from, but the feminist in me says never. Am I missing something here?”

One listener agrees with the mom’s perspective, arguing that it would be easier for the listener to know where her fiancee is going rather than constantly changing partners.
On the other hand, another listener advises the listener, whom we’ll call Anonyoums, to carefully reconsider getting married. “Postponing won’t change anything. Does she want to commit to a lifetime of knowing that there is someone else in the picture because if it starts now, it won’t end?”
