This week, acclaimed South African comedian Mpho Popps joined My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose ahead of his birthday comedy show at the Emperor’s Palace on Saturday, June 10.
Speaking to Tbose, Mpho Popps said his birthday show is different from his other shows during the year.
“My birthday show is special because it has people in and around me. It’s like a catchup session because throughout the year you’re kind of working on material,” he shared.
When it comes to my birthday show, I’m kind of touching base with my people. Last year, when I did my birthday show, I had just come out of the wellness clinic I went to. I was getting my life back on track. Now it is going to be about what happened over the past year.”
A year ago, Popps embarked on a mental health journey that has proven fruitful.
“My biggest fear going into this was that it was going to close off so many doors and people were going to start perceiving me in a certain way. When I look back now, I’m so glad I did it. I am now living my life to the fullest every single day. The biggest lesson was learning to accept myself the way I am,” he expounded.
The comedian recently joined the podcasting space. He notes that this is one of the “best adventures” he’s been on.
