Transnet SOC Ltd. has suspended an official who allegedly brandished a weapon at a club in Midrand recently. The official is employed in the company’s procurement division. He was off duty at the time and has been placed on precautionary suspension while the allegations are investigated.
In light of this, 959 Breakfast invited the Manager of Guns & Ammo Trading, Charl Kuhn to delve into South African gun law.
Kuhn explained that individuals can have a firearm from the age of 16 for sports shooting purposes, but for self-defense, one must be 21 years of age or older.
He emphasized that if you do carry a firearm, it should only be done for self-defense purposes, and if you’re going to a club or a public place, ensure there is a secure storage option for your gun.
Moreover, Kuhn advised against drinking while carrying a firearm, and for those with anger management issues, he recommended options like pepper spray or a Taser.
