This Thursday on 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phenduka we decoded media personality Nandi Madida.
Next year will mark 10 years since Nandi and Zakes Bantwini started dating – they got married in 2016.
Nandi says she and her husband don’t pay attention to what’s been said about them in the tabloids.
“For our well-being and mental health we don’t entertain that because once you do, it becomes another monster.”
The mother of two notes that motherhood has come with its fair share of challenges, however, it has taught her so much about herself.
“My daughter is autistic and those genes are from me.
“She is on the spectrum. The first thing we noticed is that she could spell at 11 months and she could say animal sounds at like 10 months.
“There are challenges that come with it. I love my kids a lot.”
Their son Shaka is the opposite of Nandi.
“My son is super social and my daughter will just give someone a high five.”
As would most mothers, Nandi had a bit of anxiety in her early stages of motherhood. “I wanted to make sure that my kids get everything they needed like any parent,” she adds.
Being a mom has been eye-opening for Nandi.
“I must say it was like self-discovery because I didn’t know that was ADHD.
“Not being able to eat certain textures, back at home my mom used to say I wasted food a lot.
“Growing up we didn’t have things like occupational therapy. ADHD kids are seen as naughty but really it’s just brilliant minds,” she told 959 Breakfast.
