Finding the perfect work-life balance is something many people struggle with.
A lot of employees often get caught up in their work that they forget to also prioritize their personal life and well-being.
Educational Psychologist and Life Coach Dr Tshepiso Matenji says it’s important that people learn to conceptualize health and wellness to achieve a quality of life.
What this entails is that if you focus on doing better, achieving wellness and health, and looking at what you are doing on a daily basis – this can help improve the quality of your life holistically, rather than you focusing on not having stress.
“You look at fulfillment in other areas and not just working. Don’t just put all of your eggs in one basket. The other thing we are encouraging is that when you are struggling to integrate your personal life and your professional life then we encourage you to look at having balance.”
She says learning to integrate the two is actually better because you have synergy.
“You are able to integrate your professional life with what you do.”
Dr Tshepiso Matenji shares tips on how to improve work-life balance.
1.Capitalize on time spent on the road
She encourages parents with small children to use the space where they are driving their kids to school as a moment to bond with them.
“It’s not an opportunity for you to be disciplining and dishing down a punishment or complaining about the traffic.”
2. Have a gratitude journal
Dr Teshepiso Matenji advises Kaya 959 listeners to keep a gratitude journal.
“Have a moment in your day when you reflect on what you are grateful for. Write down all the things you are grateful for the positives from your day.”
