Summer lovin’ is upon us and it’s a crucial time for relationships with many questioning whether their mjolo will survive December. Kaya Drive listeners shared their relationship status with Sizwe Dhlomo and the team and the responses were that most were confident their relationships will survive anything.
There are however a few who have experienced their partner’s pulling a disappearing act during December.
Sizwe and Philasande Sixaba’s relationships are like the “walls of Jericho”, according to the two this makes their love lives virtually indestructible.
The thing is that even those walls came crumbling down after the Israelites marched around the city walls once a day for six days and seven times on the seventh day blowing their trumpets.
Granted both gents have been in relationships for years and this may be why they feel their relationships are unshakable. For new relationships less than 3 months fire and brimstone may be inescapable.
December in South Africa is notorious for the heavy partying culture, fun and summer flings. There are many who go “missing” throughout the festive season only to return back in the new year like nothing happened.
Which is odd because in the digital age which makes communication as simple as a video call or text, why are so many people dropping off the face of the earth around December?
To Ty’s point about wanting a carefree summer with no obligations, younger couples may opt to end their relationship before December. For no other reason but to allow themselves to have a festive break with no strings attached.
Many Kaya Drive listeners have relationships that have stood the test of time and this comes from trust, communication and an acceptance that their partners are only human.
As much as temptation is always around, their commitment to their significant others is resolute and unwavering and that is admirable.
