Sizwe Dhlomo and the Kaya Drive are raising the bar after the festive season break. The drive show host is back from a well-deserved break with friends, family and his lady love.
Sharing highlights from his break, Sizwe admitted that holidays are expensive.
It’s easy to lose track of spending when you’re having fun. As one customer found out at the end of a night of drinks.
According to a thread on social media, the bill belongs to a gentleman who is apparently a CEO of a business conglomerate.
The final bill amounted to over R1.3 million with a 10% service charge of R125K included.
Raising the bar
The bill consisted of:
- 100 bottles of Ace of Spade champagne at R10 000 each
- 50 bottles of Vauve Rich champagne at R2 000 each
- 20 bottles of Dom Perignon champagne at R6 000 each
- 10 300ml cans of Coke at R25 each
- 3 bottles of Glenfiddich scotch whiskey at R9 500 each
- Two platters for a combined R1 100

Apart from alcohol weighing heavily on holiday expenses, many South Africans feel paying for an experience for a family of 4 locally is too expensive.
“I really want to understand why holidays are so expensive in SA. The comparison between a week in Italy vs a 4 night game drive experience in the Eastern is similar.”
Accommodation in SA during peak months soars per person, per night. So does the cost of flights. In addition most restaurants hike up their prices for the festive season.
This is because most expect a high influx of international tourists.
It is advisable to book and pay for your December holidays months in advance to secure off-peak rates.
Most travel agencies, flight centres and hotels run specials throughout the year for people to take advantage of.
