The average person may open their refrigerator between 15 – 20 times a day, a statistic that was probably researched long before the Covid-19 pandemic. With the multiple lockdowns, South Africans have faced and with many working from home to flatten the curve this number had to have changed.
This Friday on Kaya Drive, Sizwe and the team ask how often listeners open their refrigerator? As mentioned on the show previously most of the team have been working remotely during Alert Level 4, so this was the perfect sample to update the stats.
As a child, Sizwe’s mom would question his siblings and himself because of how often they opened the fridge at home.
“Is there a mirror in there that you kids like looking at yourselves in?”
Even when he’s not hungry, Siz has a habit of opening the fridge to see what’s inside and then decide if there’s something he wants to have. He’s not alone.
Tyroline Franks found herself going to her fridge after every bulletin when she was reporting Kaya traffic from home, which is why she decided to get back to the office for fear she was going to gain too much.
Sandile van Heerden is in the same boat as the others and has gained 2kgs since working from home and says you know it’s bad when you can’t find the TV remote, only to find it in the fridge.
Sandile isn’t the only one who takes Netflix marathons and snacking this seriously but considering most people eat on average 4 meals a day (incl. a snack) 15 – 20 times equates to A LOT of “fridging”.
Here’s what Kaya Drive listeners had to share about their refrigerator habits:
What’s the top 5 snacks people fridge raid?
- Cheese
- Milk
- Yoghurt
- Fruit
- Leftovers
