Calling for privacy after his estranged husband’s abuse allegations surfaced, Somizi took to Instagram and detailed that there was an altercation and he had to defend himself.
Since taking time off his on-air responsibilities at Metro FM, Mzansi Magic has since issued a statement that they have reached a mutual agreement and Somizi Mhlongo will be taking time off from Idols SA until his personal matters are resolved.

Earlier today, 6 August the Idols SA judge took to his social media to share how ‘incredibly painful’ Mohale’s accusations have been and he pointed out there was an altercation between himself and Mohale.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think that I would one day have to defend my honour as a result of someone I have loved so deeply and so genuinely deliberately harming a reputation I’ve worked so hard to build,” Somizi wrote.
The media personality and popular South African celebrity spoke about keeping his private life out of the public eye except when he met and fell in love with Mohale and he wanted the world to know about his wedding which was televised.
According to Somizi these are the facts he is comfortable sharing:
- “Our relationship had its ups and downs but I have NEVER been physically or knowingly emotionally abusive towards my estranged husband. I vehemently deny the allegations of criminal acts towards him and would like to clear my name of that defamation. What I am going to state however, is that there was an altercation in which I had to defend myself and both of us were physically hurt by the other. I am at this stage not at liberty to dive deeper into the details but can state he is not a victim in this situation.”
- ” I have been accused of sabotaging his efforts to be financially independent and can confirm that I have never made a concerted effort to block his opportunities. In fact, I have encouraged it, I have even through my own channels petitioned for opportunities for him to make money through my networks and I’ve amplified some of the work he’s done.”
- “There have been publications of stories related to our sex life and a lot of what has been said is absolutely untrue. These are very personal, private matters and I would like to keep it as such.”

Somizi calls his estranged husband’s allegations a “campaign to smear my reputation” which will ultimately result in a loss of income, having already excused himself from his places of employment.
He aims to finalize his divorce from Mohale fairly and reasonably and is taking the allegations seriously with his legal team working to address the matter.
