Dining out alone can be awkward yes, but it doesn’t have to be the social suicide some make it out to be.
There’s nothing wrong with eating alone Tyroline Franks, especially during the 4th wave of Covid-19.
This Friday on Kaya Drive with Sizwe Dhlomo, the question is are you comfortable to go to a restaurant by yourself?
Solo dining
Kehlani said it best in her track Good Thing, which is an empowerment jam for singletons to go out and grab life by the horns.
“I book myself tables at all the best restaurants, then eat alone!”
Why wait to have a plus one before you treat yourself to fine dining experiences?
Solo dining experiences are becoming a norm across the world.
As more individuals are adapting to single-life, the question then is, does eating alone shape your experience and enjoyment of the meal?
Table for one
There can be stigma attached to eating out alone and the concern is generally what will people think?
Human beings are egocentric by nature and we tend to care what people think more than we care what fulfils us personally.
Chances are the people around you, don’t even notice your table for one.
The other concern is that it won’t be fun to go out to a restaurant by yourself.
But it can be!
Here are a few reasons to try eating out alone:
- It can be liberating
- Experience new things
- Empowerment
- Put yourself first
- Comfortable being on your own
- Break the mould
- Splurge and get 2 desserts
- You don’t need to wait for the availability of others
