The Hawks have arrested a man for inciting violence related to the July riots.
Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale says police arrested Joe Bernington Mabaso (47) for incitement on Tuesday.
Mogale says following a lengthy investigation, the team executed a search warrant at a house along Chork bush Street in Braamfischer near Dobsonville.
“The search resulted in electronic devices including cell phones, a licenced firearm and clothing of Dobsonville Community Policing Forum being seized for further analysis.
“Mabaso has since made a brief court appearance in the Roodeport Magistrate’s Court facing charges of incitement to commit public violence. Further charges haven’t been ruled out as consultations continue with the prosecutor,” she says.
He has been released on R1 000 bail. The case has been postponed to January pending the finalization of the investigation, according to the Hawks.

So far, police have arrested several alleged instigators. They have been released on bail.
Meanwhile, a woman accused of instigating the riots intends to sue the police for millions.
Known on Twitter as ‘Sphithiphithi Evaluator’, she says she is suing for public humiliation, loss of income, and trauma.
She claims that she was taken by 10 police officers, who did not have a warrant.
The Ekurhuleni woman has denied the allegations.
The woman claims that police entered her home and took her personal items including her cellphones, iPad, laptop and other gadgets.
Her legal representative claims that police had ulterior motives for arresting the woman. He further said his client plans to sue for millions.
According to reports, the woman is due back in court next year.
