Have you tasted the newest product in the market inspired by a Limpopo delicacy mopane worms?
Well, there’s online buzz is being generated by an inventive woman who makes chocolate bars out of mopane worms.
Kaya Biz with Gugulethu Mfuphi spoke to Wendy Vesela-Ntimbani – owner and founder of Matomani SA’s first-ever mopane worm chocolate that has gotten everyone talking.

Wendy cashed out her pension fund to start the business in November 2021, the diligent businessman also has a Master of Business Administration and a degree in chemical engineering.

She is a passionate businesswoman who is now based in Johannesburg but is originally from Limpopo and has social media users talking about her company that makes mopane worm chocolates.

Matomani also has in its range hand-picked whole mopane worms, biscuits and flour that you can use to make nutritious pizza, muffins, cookies, bread and other tasty baked treats.
“The business was founded last year and will be celebrating one year in December. This business was all about educating people about this amazing superfood, called mopane worms and being able to make it accessible to people. “
“Mopane worms for those that don’t know it, are caterpillars mostly found on the Mopane trees which are found in the northern part of Limpopo or the mopane district. It is very tasty, 60% protein, it has fibre, iron and minerals we need to functions as people.” says Matomani
