British actor Idris Elba has been named the host of the 2021 Africa Day Concert.
The Golden Globe winner will host the concert on May 25 – the date of the continent’s annual Africa Day celebrations.
The day is celebrated every year to mark the day the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) – the precursor to the AU – was established in 1963.
This year’s virtual concert will feature some of Africa’s biggest stars.
“Artists will perform on multiple stages from Lagos to Johannesburg in an event that will be streamed to a global audience on YouTube and broadcast on the MTV channels.
“Africa is in the midst of a creative and cultural renaissance that has been accelerated by artists who are claiming a unique space in the world,” organisers said in a statement.
