The health ministry says one-third of the Johnson & Johnson vaccines available in the country will be allocated to the private sector over the next 14 days.
Since arriving in the country last week, the vaccines were used to vaccinate over 10,000 healthcare workers.
More than 3,000 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the private sector with cooperation between the department of health officials and the Sisonke program.
Call for calm
Despite 16 000 doses allocated to Gauteng, there was some controversy surrounding the rollout at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria this weekend.
Some doctors employed at private hospitals were turned away despite having appointments and following the process of registering for the vaccine on the government online portal.
The Gauteng Health Department reassures health workers that no one will be excluded from the national vaccination program.

This comes after the Steve Biko Academic Hospital experienced an influx of health care workers yesterday out of fear that the vaccine might run-out before they get their jabs.
