Gauteng police are investigating a case of murder after a principal was gunned down while seated in his car on Friday morning.
SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Kay Makhubela, said the principal was shot several times while parked in the school’s driveway.
The motive for the shooting is unknown.
Provincial MEC for Education, Panyaza Lesufi, expressed his shock and outrage at the fatal shooting.
“We are extremely shocked and outraged at the news of the school shooting in Finetown this morning. Without even knowing the motive for this heartless act, we condemn the shooting of the principal of Buyani Primary and send our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues,” the MEC said.
Psycho-Social Unit visits school
He called on police to ensure that those responsible for the principal’s death are brought to book.
“Our Psycho-Social Unit will also visit the school to provide all the necessary assistance to learners and educators,” the MEC said.
In April, a 31-year-old teacher at Progress Primary School in Lenasia, was abducted and later killed. Naadira Vanker’s body was found a few days later, buried in a shallow grave in Phumlamqashi.
The Post reported that Vanker was assaulted and her hands and feet bound before she was shoved into her car and a suspect drove off.
The abduction took place in full view of Vanker’s children who ran to their grandmother, Vanker’s mother, who lived a few doors away.
Police have since arrested a suspect who pointed out where the teacher’s body was buried.
