February sporting fixtures you don’t want to miss

By: Natasha Archary

After all the postponements and tournament cancellations, let’s cross fingers that 2021 will be a fantastic sporting year. Here are a few dates worth jotting down for February 2021.

Rugby

The 2021 Guinness, Six Nations Championship, takes place over the course of February and March in Europe. The English will be looking to defend their 2020 title, but not if France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales have anything to do with it.

Schedule for Feb as follows:
  • Round one: 6-7 February
  • Round two: 13-14 February
  • Round three: 27-28 February

In other news, Australia have graciously offered to host the 2021 British & Irish Lions National Tour, between the Lions and the World Champion Springboks. The tour will kick off in June, so our boys in green and gold will spend the next few months in training rigorously in preparation.

Tennis

After a successful exhibition tournament in Adelaide, Australia on the 29th January, the tennis world is rearing to go with the Australian Open from the 8th – 21st February 2021.

Australia’s management of the Covid-19 pandemic must be commended. Since the outbreak, a sold-out stadium of 4000 unmasked spectators watched the exhibition in a first for the world. It’s a nod to normalcy, well done Australia.

Golf

Postponements to the US Open and Masters, meant that most tournaments fell into the 2021 calendar. As a result, there will be six majors this season. This is what February’s schedule looks like:
