Expect a 15,63% electricity tariffs increase from the 1st April as Eskom gets the thumbs up from the National Energy Regulator of South Africa.
In a bid to recover costs at the fragile power utility NERSA has welcomed the increase for the 2021/22 financial year.
Eskom approached the High Court in Pretoria last year to increase the price of electricity to help address some of its revenue shortfalls.
Poor residential customers will continue to be supported through the free basic electricity programme.
Eskom’s general manager for regulation Hasha Tlhotlhalemaje:
The DA has called on South Africans to write to NERSA directly and put pressure on the regulator to reconsider its decision to further burden taxpayers with high price increases.
