Beyoncé Knowles-Carter celebrated her 45th birthday on Friday, 4 September, with messages of love and appreciation pouring in from her family, friends and millions of fans around the world.
Among the tributes that captured fans’ hearts was one from her mother, Tina Knowles, who shared a nostalgic photograph taken shortly after Beyoncé was born.
The 72-year-old businesswoman and philanthropist took to Instagram to celebrate her daughter’s special day, reflecting on the moment she first met the global superstar.
Knowles said Beyoncé’s birth made her the happiest she had ever been at that point in her life.
“Reminiscing on this day 45 years ago. You took nine hours to come. I am exhausted in this photo, but the happiest I’ve ever been in my life up to this point on this day, Sept 4th, 1981,” she wrote.
Reflecting on the photograph, Knowles described the connection she immediately felt with her daughter.
“We are making our first eye contact. The connection is so strong and so beautiful and so powerful. It’s never been broken and it never will.”
Knowles also highlighted what she considers to be one of Beyoncé’s greatest qualities – her compassion.
“Out of all the beautiful things about you, the thing I love the most is your huge heart! It is the thing that I’m the most proud of. You are an extraordinary human being first,” she said.
The mother and daughter have shared a close relationship throughout Beyoncé’s career, with Knowles often publicly supporting the singer through the highs and challenges that have come with global fame.
She also reflected on the criticism Beyoncé has faced over the years, praising her daughter for continuing to create, inspire and make an impact despite the noise surrounding her.
“Even through all the sometimes terrible noise you keep going and moving forward. Creating, loving, lifting up others, constantly making history, and using that genius mind, working your butt off, minding your own damn business, and living your life to the fullest.”
Knowles ended her message with a simple birthday wish to her daughter: “Happy Birthday I love you.”
Meanwhile, Beyoncé’s husband, rapper and producer Jay-Z, also gave the superstar a birthday shout-out during his London show.
Jay-Z appeared to jokingly acknowledge that Beyoncé might not appreciate him putting her on the spot, but went ahead with the birthday tribute regardless.
The couple, who have been married since 2008, share three children.
