In conversation with online publication them, iconic actress Raven Symone opens up about her lengthy career as a child actress as well as breaks down her journey into her queerness.
Throughout her career, Raven starred in classics like Kim Possible, The Little Rascals, Dr. Doolittle, Cheetah Girls and That’s so Raven making her known as one of the greatest child stars of all time.
Despite the pressures of being a young child actress, Raven notes that even at that young age she was always aware of her queerness.
Throughout her time shooting, That’s so Raven, Raven notes that she was in a relationship with a man but nevertheless told him that if they were going to get married she had to have a girlfriend.
“At this point, I was in a relationship with a guy, who I would tell on a regular basis that if we get married, “you know I gotta have a girlfriend right?”, Raven shared.
In addition to this Raven notes that her queerness was never an issue because she didn’t put it out there in the public.
“My queerness was never an issue because I didn’t put it out in the public”.
She furthermore reiterates that back then making others happy was prioritised over living one’s truth.
“During that time period in our country, wasn’t about your truth, it was about how you can make others happy, and live the life that someone else wants you to live”, Raven noted.
