On her move to London from South Africa
Toya was recently in South Africa for her grandfather Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s funeral. She currently lives in London with her wife, Alisson ‘Ally’ Chaig, and their one-year-old daughter Kali.
She reflected on her decision to move to the UK and how one of her wildest dreams was always to travel the world touring.
I feel like I started my music career back from scratch when I decided to move from South Africa to London with my wife, and one of my wildest dreams was always to travel the world touring, creating shows that are memorable and bringing people together. Being at this point is truly a testament that hard work, dedication and obsessing over your dreams do pay off, eventually. The team has put a lot of love into making the show unforgettable. The pure joy and energy that fills the room when we all come together is beyond words, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world..”
On being an indie-artist
She also reflected on her music journey and shared how she had to embrace every challenge and setback.
‘Everything has led me to this chapter cause sometimes in life, you have to burn yourself to the ground before you can rise like a phoenix from the ashes – Being indie, and creating my own future, has taught me resilience determination, and the power of never giving up on your dreams. I am grateful for every challenge and setback, rejection really is protection, the grind only made me stronger and more determined to bring you my best self. Thank you all for your support throughout the years and whatever put you in touch with my music None of this would be possible without each and every one of vou. The support and love is felt. #Afrorave”
