Hats off to Senzo Radebe, the talented actor renowned for his role as Senzangakhona in the hit series Shaka iLembe. Radebe recently took to social media to reveal his well-deserved nomination for Best African Actor at the prestigious Septimius Awards in the Netherlands.
Senzangakhona, the character portrayed by Radebe, holds a significant place in Zulu history as the son of King Jama and Queen Mthaniya. Senzangakhona’s story is one of charisma, despite his initial disappointment at not fulfilling the grand destiny foretold by the Sanusi. From his bloodline emerged the legendary Zulu King Shaka and a lineage of leaders who continued to unite and lead the Zulu Nation long after his rule.
The Septimius Awards, known for their commitment to discovering and nurturing independent talent, celebrate excellence in various aspects of filmmaking and storytelling, encompassing fiction, non-fiction, animation, television series, and scripts. The event attracts an esteemed audience, including Emmy, BAFTA, and Oscar winners, such as luminaries Christopher Hampton and Kevin Willmott.
In 2017, Senzo Radebe was involved in a life-changing accident. He recently opened up about the remarkable journey of resilience and self-discovery that followed. Radbe bravely opened up about how the accident left him with a scar on his arm, affecting both his mental and physical well-being.
“In 2017, an accident shattered my world both physically and emotionally. But today, I stand here, a survivor, a warrior who refused to be defeated,” shared the actor in part.
“The scar on my arm may have affected my mental and physical health, but it will never define me. There were times when I couldn’t bear the stares or questions about my scar, times when my confidence hit rock bottom. I couldn’t even wear T-shirts, but I refused to let it hold me back.”
