Minister of Sport, Arts & Culture, Nathi Mthethwa has been slammed for not reading the room. His insensitive tweet during Riky Rick’s funeral has been highly criticised.
The minister shared pictures from his visit to the Kgosi Mampuru Gallows Museum in Tshwane to officially mark Human Rights month.
However, many South Africans were not impressed with the timing of his post which marked the museum as a national heritage site.
Mthethwa’s post came on the day of Riky Rick’s funeral in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
Earlier today, we were at Kgosi Mampuru Museum in Tshwane in the Gauteng province to officially launch Human Rights Month. As an integral part of our programme we embarked on a tour of the Kgosi Mampuru Gallows Museum, a national heritage site. 🇿🇦 #HumanRightsMonthLaunch pic.twitter.com/FQlg0CzjJZ

Due to the sensitive nature around Riky Rick’s death, many felt that Mthethwa lacked the ability to read the room.
“He banna, not today. MXM,” tweeted EFF CIC Julius Malema.
“Nathi Mthethwa is a primary example of our Government not being in touch with the realities of the masses of this country. Riky Rick was right when he said we are on our own, they are proving him right even in death. So insensitive sies!” tweeted @Malwande_udumo
Riky Rick died after reportedly hanging himself on the morning of 23 February.
A tribute celebration for the SA rapper will be held on Friday 4 March.
