Mzansi Magic has announced their new arranged marriage show, Ngikhethele, which is said to redefine the pursuit of love.
Ngikhethele follows the journeys of eight singles who turn to their families in search of the ideal life partner. Families must solely rely on meeting and vetting potential spouses’ families without direct interaction with the potential suitors themselves.
The process starts with families visiting the Ngikhethele lounge to establish their preferences and criteria for a match for their son. Next, two families are picked for initial dates. After the dates, the families move on to the home date phase, with the groom’s family visiting the top two homes and vice versa. The true essence of Ngikhethele is revealed in the ultimate decision-making process, where families choose their desired match for the singles involved. Once the decision is made, a letter is sent to the bride’s family as a formal request for ukucela ubuhlobo (the act of seeking a relationship), giving the bride’s family the choice to accept or decline the proposal.
The culmination of the show arrives with the highly anticipated Lobola Day, where both families gather to celebrate the engagement. It is an occasion filled with joy and festivities. During this event, the couple is brought together for the first time, and they embark on a three-week trial period, living together to assess their compatibility.
As Lobola Day approaches, preparations begin, and the families come together to negotiate and finalize the marriage arrangements. However, the ultimate decision to marry lies with the couple themselves, granting them the power to shape their own future together.
Ngikhethele is a captivating and heartwarming show that offers viewers an unconventional perspective on the quest for love. It promises to stir emotions with its heartfelt moments and highlight the profound impact of family connections.
