Mjokes’ widow, Mamello ‘Lami’ Mogane has reportedly fallen on hard times since his death last year, and is calling for public donations.
According to Drum, the late Trompies singer’s widow is at risk of being homeless this Christmas after falling behind on her rent for the last 7-months.
The publication says that Emmanuel Matsane aka ‘Mjokes’ estate is still not wound up and there are disputes over his will.
Mjokes’ widow claims she was told by a Trompies member that she is not entitled to any money from his estate, and says her marriage to the singer is being questioned.
She says she’s been in and out of court fighting for her husband’s estate, so she can provide a roof over their children’s heads.
The Trompies singer died in a car accident in 2021, leaving his widow to fend for herself and their three children.
“I have endured a lot. They said I am not supposed to claim any money that belongs to him. Because of that one comment made by a member of Trompies, I have been in and out of court fighting for my husband’s estate so that I can afford to take care of my children.
As a woman, you are either blamed for killing your husband or when your husband died in an accident, like mine did, you will be denied access to his money and be accused of not being a legitimate wife, which is what I am going through.”
Mjokes’ widow says she and her three children will be homeless if she cannot pay rent this month, as quoted from Drum
The widow says she’s been relying on the handouts and donations of the public to provide for her children, and is calling for public donations or a home so that her family does not end up on the streets.
However, the publication reports that a director of Kalawa Jazmee, the record label that Mjokes was also a director at, denies that the widow approached the label for financial help.
Bruce Tebogo Sebitlo says the issue is that Mjokes’ estate is wound up by the state and the case is ongoing.
He says Mjokes was and still is a director and the company and that lawyers are finalising issues such as the late singer’s salary and shares.
