South African drama series Reyka has received an international Emmy nomination for Best Drama Series.
Reyka is up against Lupin, Narcos: Mexico, and Vigil.
Reyka is the first African drama series to be nominated in ovr a decade – and only the third ever, after Home Affairs in 2007 and 2008, and Sokhulu and Partners in 2009.
Kim Engelbrecht, who stars as the lead in the crime drama has also received an Emmy for Best Performance by an Actress her title role.
Reyka follows criminal profiler Reyka Gama as she investigates a string of brutal murders committed by a serial killer in the sugar cane fields of KwaZulu-Natal. The opening night series at last year’s Monte-Carlo Television Festival,
Kim Engelbrecht won Best Actress in a TV Drama at the South African Film And Television Awards recently (SAFTAs).
“Thank you to everyone who put their time, belief and effort into REYKA . I am so privileged to part of this,” she wrote on social media.
