This past weekend radio and television broadcaster Lamiez Holworthy received two accolades at the first annual Basadi in Music Awards (BIMAs).
Lamiez scooped the DJ of the Year and Music TV Presenter of the Year.
Reflecting on the win, an emotional Lamiez said it took her over a decade to establish her brand. And as much as she would like to take all the credit for her two awards, the DJ says she owes them to her mother.
“My mom who believed in me when this was all just a dream, who took money meant to pay the electricity bill and bought me headphones when I just started out (this meant that my family had to sit in the dark a little longer).”
Lamiez recalls her mom driving her to gigs in her late father’s security van.
“My mom who’d spend her last on printing and wearing T-shirts with my name and Logo on it because she believed in me that much,” adds Lamiez.
Her mom has been managing her since the start of her career.
Last but not least, Lamiez expresses gratitude to everyone who voted for her.
“This win is OURS. This win is for every little girl with just a dream- see whilst it looks easy on social media, it’s far from it but when you work hard, absolutely no one can take it away from you-Your time will come. YOUR TIME IS NEAR.”
