In January of this year, author and media personality Khaya Dlanga laid his beloved mother to rest. Reflecting on her farewell, Dlanga expressed that it was as beautiful as she was. He also extended heartfelt gratitude to all his friends who offered their support during this difficult time.
This past Thursday marked one month since Dlanga received the news of his mother’s passing. Dlanga recalled the emotions that raced through his mind when he heard the news of his mom’s death.
“Exactly one month ago today I leaned on a desk here. And it began to collapse in slow motion and I fell along with it and it broke. I laughed and the colleagues asked if I was ok. I helped move the broken desk and replaced it with another, the one see in this picture. 10 minutes later I went to sit at my desk and I saw a message trom my sister “Sisi is trying to call. It’s important.” I saw the missed calls from sisi and called her back.
The call lasted exactly 59 WhatsApp seconds.“What I am about to tell you is not a nice thing. But sisi has left us.” She said.
I remained motionless in the furnitureless room at the office I had walked into to make the call.
“Ngxesi khehle,” “I am so sorry.” It was a cold lonely moment. I felt completely adrift and alone in dark black lifeless endless ocean. “Enkosi sisi,” I finally said. She said sorry again. We eventually hang up.“I went to my desk and pretended to be ok for a few minutes. Should I carry on working, or go home? The mind thinks foolish things at such times. Eventually I packed my bags and a colleague was now at my desk about to present some work to me and I said, “Sorry, I have a meeting I forgot about.” Walked out.
