Gospel singer Kelly Khumalo has been implicated once more in ordering the hit on her former lover and father of her child, Senzo Meyiwa.
On Wednesday, 24 January, two of the five men accused of gunning down the football icon at Kelly’s family home in Vosloorus in 2014, accused the singer of being the mastermind of his killing.
The accused claimed that police were set to arrest Kelly, and had an application for a J50 warrant of arrest but this was not signed.
A J50 warrant of arrest is only authorised in matters where it is clear that the attendance of the accused at court cannot be secure by any other means.
Lead Investigator Brigadier Bongani Gininda, in his statement from 2020, shared that two of the accused, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya and Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, revealed that Kelly was the one who had given instructions for Senzo to be killed.
Gininda also said the decision to pursue charges against the Empini hitmaker was not followed through on by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).
“A decision was taken at that time that these are the people that must be indicted, and that is the accused one to five.
I cannot disclose further details in terms of my discussion with the NPA, but there were certain things that had to be looked into insofar as Ms Kelly Khumalo.”
According to Gininda, Kelly Khumalo had during cellphone conversations with sister Zandie Khumalo shared that she “hated him (Senzo) and wanted to get rid of him.”
Gininda also claimed that Kelly went to a sangoma for cleansing after Senzo was killed.
This isn’t the first time Kelly Khumalo has been implicated in Senzo Meyiwa’s death, and last year the Pretoria High Court heard a cellphone data analyst share that the singer was in communication with one of the men accused just days before the footballer’s murder.
The murder trial for Senzo Meyiwa continues after several delays.
