The analyst and investigation officer said data that was analyzed from cellphone downloads on a CD, containing information about targets, revealed that the gospel singer, and Meyiwa’s girlfriend at the time of his death, had been called twice by accused No.5, Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli.
Steyn, who is the State’s 4th witness, said the two occasions Kelly and Ntuli made contact were on, 02 August 2014, and then again on 15, October 2014, just days before he was killed.
The first call, which lasted 2-minutes, on 02 August came through to Kelly’s number at 22h47, when the mother of 3 was in Kimberley, whilst the second call was all of 98-seconds.
On the CD Steyn received on 09 April 2020, was cellphone data of all the people present in the Khumalo family home on the day Meyiwa was murdered.
The occupants of the house included, Kelly, her sister Zandie, their mother, Ntombi Khumalo, Zandie’s boyfriend at the time, Longwe Twala, and two of Meyiwa’s friends – Mthokozisi Thwala, who is also the cousin of Meyiwa’s wife, Mandisa Mkhize; as well as Tumelo Madlala, Meyiwa’s childhood friend.
All the occupants phones were included in the data analysis, except that of Kelly’s, which was reportedly taken by one of the 5 men in what the state is calling a botched home invasion.
Steyn says Meyiwa’s cellphone records were also not included.
When analyzing the cellphone records, Steyn found numbers belonging to Kelly, which he said could be proven using a number of verification methods including Truecaller, or the E-Natis system.
Five men are accused of murdering Meyiwa: Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Fisokuhle Nkani Ntuli and Mthokoziseni Maphisa.
All five men have pleaded not guilty. The trial continues.
