YouTube star, Lasizwe Dambuza claims he was racially profiled in Spain where he was attending a global event by the video platform.
Lasizwe who hosts a YouTube show, “Drink Or Tell The Truth” was one of the top international content creators who was honoured at the event in Valencia, Spain.
While the social media influencer was looking forward to engaging with his Spanish followers, he shared his horrible experience of being racially profiled whilst at the airport.
In a series of Tweets that have since been deleted, Lasizwe said he was threatened by police that he would be arrested if they were to spot him without his face mask on.
Before travelling to Spain, Lasizwe familiarised himself with the Covid-19 rules and protocols and shared that the use of masks were only mandatory when using public transport.
“So I got racially profiled. I was stopped by police in Spain, inside the airport and they asked me for my passport. Then they told me to wear my mask, threatening to arrest me if I didn’t comply.
Bear in mind, it’s not mandatory in Spain to wear masks anymore, except for when you’re in a public transport.”
Lasizwe said when he looked around the airport, no one was wearing face masks, and wondered if the rules were different for them because they’re all white.
“I looked around the airport and NO ONE WAS WEARING MASKS. Also bear in mind, it’s just white people here. Black people are a 1:1000 scale here, after the security check point. I felt like they targeted me because I was alone, young and black. This was a very wild experience, still trying to process it.”
Despite his ordeal, Lasizwe still managed to have a fun time at the event, and shared that he had eventually found “his people” in Spain.
Vibing with people who danced like him, it seems the YouTuber let the incident at the airport slide and deleted his Tweets.
