Speaking to 959 Breakfast with Dineo Ranaka and Sol Phendunka on Thursday morning, Enhle Mbali revealed that she’d love to have a third child, preferably a girl.
“I’m not done with having kids. I very selfishly want to have a little girl. But also to just do things differently from what my mother did. A part of why we are here on this earth is just to get better with every generation.
“As much as the boys are it for me, a little girl would be more of me.”
Enhle Mbali notes that we do come from “families where children were only seen and not heard,” however, she’s given her kids the leeway to feel comfortable to say anything to mom.
“But apart from that, I feel children need to feel loved and protected.
“In the same way, women need to feel loved and protected and I’ve given that to my children.
“I can see it in their actions and also in making him understand – If you can’t speak to mom there’s a life coach and learn new coping mechanisms.”
On gender-based violence
Speaking about gender-based violence, Enhle feels that “men carry pain they cannot speak of” so they take it out on women and children.
“How do men rape women and take turns, how do you as a man keep raping a woman when she’s tied down and then kill her? Something is incredibly wrong inside.
“I think that’s where we need to start, we cannot tell women that they cannot wear short skirts or look sexy because.”
She adds that we need to have real conversations with our men. “Did the problem start during apartheid? Did you not heal so it’s generational? If it is generational then how do we help you help us?”Asks Enhle Mbali.
