Following the senseless killing of rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, South African artist Emtee believes he’s next on the hit-list after receiving death threats.
The musician whose real name is Mthembeni Ndevu, says he’s been receiving death threats for over 2-years, but he’s especially worried after DJ Sumbody’s murder and now AKA.
DJ Sumbody was gunned down in Pretoria in November last year and a few months after that, another artist, Vusi Ma R5 was also shot and killed.
Emtee posted to Twitter a few days ago that he’s looking to beef up his security and is scouting for additional security or a body guard.
Speakin to TshisaLIVE, Emtee shared the shocking death threats he’s been receiving.
“After DJ Sumbody was gunned down I received a message from an unknown number threatening me.
I blocked the number but now the person is using a new number. The message said ‘You are next. You think you are smart. I won’t leave a tiny stone unturned.’
People want to extort me for money I don’t have.”
The 30-year old rapper said he’s reported the death threats to SAPS on a number of occasions but said nothing was done about it.
Emtee collaborated with slain rapper AKA on the remix to the track Roll Up.
AKA was shot execution-style in Durban on Friday, 10 February and will be laid to rest on Saturday, 18 February.
