Hungani Ndlovu made his Skeem Saam debut this week to replace Cornet Mamabolo as Tbose Maputla and has received mixed reactions for his performance.
It is normal for an actor to get polarizing reviews when they replace a popular actor. Cornet Mamabolo had been on Skeem Saam for ten years before leaving to focus on his financial services business.
“Risk, risk, risk! Bag of tricks (invite memory), artistry, and PLAY! Play, Sir,” Mamabolo told Ndlovu. “It’s too soon to take anything to heart. Play, my brother, just play. Because that’s exactly what it is: a PLAY! Our profession requires us to play, and when we are tired of playing, we tap out.”
Tbose left Turfloop in 2021 to work overseas. He returns home after finding out that his son, Pitsi, was shot at his uncle’s home. Hungani says viewers will get to see a “different side of Tbose.”
He added that the experience on set has been amazing so far. “I must say, the family here has been so welcoming and so friendly. The energy here is amazing. From location to studio, from the actors to the crew to production, I’ve really had a great time, and I am looking forward to spending more time here,” said Ndlovu.
Apart from Ndlovu, there are other new additions coming to Skeem Saam. Actor Tazz Nginda will play the character of Sisanda Qhubeka, a charming marketing strategist who oozes sex appeal and great confidence. However, not everyone will welcome him with open arms, as he subtly stirs trouble that leaves the Maphosa kingdom divided.
