Chidimma Adetshina has opened up about what her crowning moment at Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 means to her, calling her crown more than a symbol of beauty.
Taking to Instagram after what can only be described as a full-circle moment, Chidimma, who was ousted as a Miss SA 2024 finalist due to controversy around her South African citizenship, said she has a vision to create African unity and a peaceful co-existence.
The 23-year law student withdrew from the Miss SA pageant following an investigation into her citizenship which found prima facie evidence pointing at her mother for allegedly committing identity theft and fraud.
While the South African Home Affairs Department is continuing its investigation into the matter, Chidimma was invited to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant and went on to win the title.
An emotional Chidimma thanked God, her family and those who stood with her through the past few months of challenges, tears and finally, victory.
“What an incredible journey this has been. Standing here as Miss Universe Nigeria is a dream come true, and I am deeply honoured and humbled to wear this crown tonight.
I want to dedicate this crown to God Almighty, who has been my strength through every trial and triumph. Without His grace, I wouldn’t be standing here today. I am forever grateful.
To my fellow queens, the beautiful and strong ladies who have graced this competition with me, I love you all, this crown represents all of us as queens.
As I accept this honour, I want to share a vision that burns deeply within me, a vision of African unity and peaceful co-existence!
Let’s break down the barriers that divide us. Let’s foster a continent where every African can move freely without prejudice, pursue their dreams, and contribute to the growth and prosperity of our great continent.
This crown is not just a symbol of beauty, it is a call to action.”
