Charlamagne Tha God says Tyla’s team had off-limits questions before their interview.
Charlamagne Tha God has reflected on events leading to his controversial interview with Grammy Award winner Tyla, saying prior to the interview her team had instructed her to avoid asking certain questions.
Some of the question that were off-limits were about her dating life, her injury that caused her tour to be postponed, and why she wasn’t touring with Chris Brown anymore, as well as her friendship with Kai Cenat,
Charlamagne Tha God spoke on his podcast and stated that he had refused the request and went on to ask anyway, which led to Tyla not responding to the question during the interview. He defended his decision to proceed by saying “It is your job as label, management to either prepare the artist for the questions or pull the interview.”

Tyla would later release a statement where she explained why she didn’t answer Charlemagne Tha God’s question stating “I don’t expect to be identified as Coloured outside of Southa by anyone not comfortable doing so because I understand the weight of that word outside of SA But to close this conversation, I’m both Coloured in South Africa and a black women,”
The controversy over Tyla’s race and ethnicity began when fans stumbled upon a TikTok video she had posted years prior before her song “Water” became a global hit.
