Natasha Joubert might have won the Miss SA 2023 crown, but it will be her runner-up, Bryoni Natalie Govender who will be representing South Africa at the Miss Universe 2023 pageant.
Govender, a 27-year old LLB graduate and a candidate attorney, had her dreams of being crowned Miss SA dashed yet again, but is said to be incredibly proud of herself for how far she’s come.
In 2018, the beauty from Morningside, Johannesburg entered Miss SA and was placed in the Top 12.
Bryoni might have missed out on the Miss SA crown but she will be jetting off to El Salvador, to grace the stage as Miss Universe SA on 18 November 2023.
This is due to newly crowned Miss SA, Natasha Joubert being unable to enter the contest, having represented South Africa in 2020.
Natasha did not make the Top 21 on the international stage, and no woman may represent her country more than once at Miss Universe.
Miss Universe confirmed that it would be Bryoni Govender who will vie for the title of Miss Universe, moments after Natasha’s crowning.
Bryoni says she is the epitome of a strong woman, having been raised by a woman who used to transport other women to and from work for a living.
“Empowered women, empower women. All women deserve a seat at the table, and if that’s not available, go create your own table.”

The last time an Indian woman represented South Africa at the Miss Universe pageant was in 1998, when former Miss SA, Kerishnie Naicker was placed in the Top 10.
